Sprout teamed up with DermaFlash to create the second generation Dermaplane: a revolutionary, exfoliating facial device that painlessly removes dead skin and pesky peach fuzz. Sprout was tasked with creating a new iconic form that was ergonomic and easy to use for women of all ages.
We began by focusing on the usability and functional aspects of the product. We designed a twisted form for the product that intuitively fits into a woman’s hand. In addition to the functional benefits, the twisted handle also provides the unique and iconic form Dermaflash had desired. The product’s over-molded silicone outer makes it both easy to grip and waterproof. We also integrated a power button with LEDs that show through the silicon outer, and a single press, edge eject button. We then topped the product with a metallic cap that increases the perceived value as well as manufacturing efficiency.
The product is designed to be customizable at the factory level allowing for multiple color, material, and finish options for retail partnerships and other collaborations. When the battery needs to be recharged, simply eject the blade, flip the product upside down, and place it in its charging cradle. For hygienic reasons, the edges are only meant to be used once, so we designed the cradle to only accept the product without an edge, reducing the risk of error. The base of the product is made of a thick acrylic that illuminates when charging.
Dermaplane was released on January 5th, 2018 and has received enthusiastic reviews since. Please scroll down to see what people are raving about.
