Sprout Supports Nonprofit Drop In Coalition in East Coast Expansion

Two years ago, Sprout collaborated with the nonprofit Drop In Coalition to create a brand identity for their surf and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) field trip program. Teaching children to “Grow With the Flow,” Drop In provides unique learning experiences for children from underrepresented communities. Earlier this month, the California-based organization partnered with Our Sisters’ School in New Bedford, MA to bring their brain and body adventure programs to the East Coast.

We were invited to Second Beach in Rhode Island to capture the fun as a brand new group of students dove into Drop In. Participants were led by instructors and subject matter experts through four days of oceanography, wave math, planet-saving problem solving, and, of course, surfing. At the end of the program, students presented self-developed tide prediction models that were designed with data collected from their time in the ocean.

Drop In Coalition was founded in honor of Tushar Atre, whose life was tragically cut short. We are often asked about the curious and slightly mischievous, but sophisticated octopus that Sprout designed as the primary mark of the organization. The eight tentacles represent the founders of Drop In Coalition, their love of the ocean, and the power of education. The cause is close at heart for Sprout CEO Jordan Nollman, who serves as a founding board member with other friends and family of Tushar.
