Design Activism at Work: Save the Forbes
For 42 years, The Forbes Building has provided affordable housing for residents in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. In March 2022, Counterpoint (All City) Management Corporation plans to convert the building and displace hundreds of long-time residents, who are predominantly elderly and disabled.
This plan is part of a larger initiative that will also take JP businesses by eminent domain and deny the 10 percent housing set aside at the Forbes for the homeless.
Sprout joined the Massachusetts Alliance of HUD Tenants (MAHT) to develop a campaign strategy to support local residents in their upcoming rally to preserve the JP community. In a 48 hour blitz of design activism, the Sprout team designed a full suite of assets for an upcoming rally to save The Forbes Building.
