What is actually in all those Tupperware containers? Do you know? Do you even care? At Sprout, we were thinking of ways to help people solve issues with food storage and waste. Every year in the U.S., about 40% of food goes to waste, and most from people not remembering what they have in their refrigerator and pantries. Sprout developed the SmartWare system with ALEXA, as a way to make food easy. Simply tell ALEXA what’s in your containers and scan the lid. You can then use the Smartware app to see your full inventory and you’ll be reminded of what you have and when you should get back to it before it goes bad. By adding the ability to work with the Alexa and other Food Tech companies, we will allow the consumer to easily reorder products from Amazon Fresh, get step-by-step instructions for their meals from Blue Apron, remotely check to see if they have any leftovers or if they should just pick up a pizza.
The SmartWare system utilizes RFID tags that are placed on each container and the SmartWare scanner (RFID writing device) to digitally archive you food. With the SmartWare app, you can then see, control, and get updates on what is in each container. With integration of ALEXA you can control and access all the same information through voice, allowing for easy of use.
