Enterprise Data Storage
Designing a future-focused, mobile and modular system to solve problems with storing the world’s enterprise data

/ Seagate: Introduction
Seagate
Seagate, a global leader in data solutions, saw both a challenge and an opportunity in the rapidly evolving landscape of enterprise storage. As the amount of data generated worldwide accelerated, existing solutions struggled to keep up, slowed by latency, limited scalability, and fragmented systems. To seize early leadership in this changing market, Seagate turned to Sprout. Together, we transformed an ambitious long-term product vision into a portfolio of groundbreaking solutions that launched years ahead of schedule. More than product design, this was about shaping Seagate’s position as an industry pioneer with a clear, compelling vision for the future of data.
/ Seagate: The Challenge
Reinventing the future of data storage
The demand for data storage is growing exponentially. Industries like media and entertainment alone generate terabytes of content every week, with next-generation formats pushing capacity needs into petabytes. Yet transferring this data from endpoints such as cars, drones, and cameras to the cloud was inefficient, costly, and complex, creating bottlenecks, security gaps, and rising expenses for organizations. Seagate recognized this gap but needed a partner who could accelerate innovation, simplify complex technologies, and craft a cohesive product story that would resonate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

/ Seagate: The Approach
Designing the building blocks of data storage
Sprout’s strategy focused on designing for modularity, scalability, and usability. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, we developed a flexible ecosystem that could scale from compact 1TB mobile drives to petabyte-capacity rack systems.
Key design priorities included:
- Modularity & Scalability: A building-block approach allows customers to customize configurations, optimize costs, and future-proof their infrastructure.
- Mobility & Edge Capture: Integrated handles, lockable cases, and vehicle-mounting solutions make it easy to capture and move data from the field to the cloud.
- User-Centered Storytelling: Beyond technical specs, we created a clear visual brand language (VBL) and narrative framework to simplify complexity and communicate Seagate’s vision across audiences.
This approach ensured that Seagate’s hardware not only delivered technically but also connected with users through intuitive design and consistent branding.

/ Seagate: The Outcome
Setting the scene for the future
Sprout’s partnership helped Seagate achieve in months what was originally imagined for years in the future, bringing advanced solutions to market far ahead of schedule. This acceleration gave Seagate a competitive advantage, positioning them as a forward-looking leader at a pivotal moment in the industry.
The results extended beyond individual products. By establishing a cohesive design foundation and visual brand language, Sprout created a roadmap that continues to guide Seagate’s next generation of hardware. Today, the portfolio reflects a unified ecosystem that communicates clarity, flexibility, and innovation to customers while enabling Seagate to expand its influence and market share.
Seagate’s evolution demonstrates how strategic design can bridge the gap between complex technology and human experience, transforming technical innovation into accessible, scalable, and market-ready solutions.
